I hinted toward a move in my last post, and amid a whirlwind of moving boxes that are currently taking over our apartment, I want to share where I’m going next.
Our lease is up in a few days, and we took this as a sign to try something new. We had been saving for awhile, so Mustafa quit his day job, and now we’re both be working from home growing our respective businesses.
The thing is we’re not sure exactly where are next home is. This is a bit nerve-racking, but also equally exhilarating.
Mustafa and I are moving out of our Pleasant Hill home here in the SF Bay Area, and we’ll be going to Turkey (with a brief visa stop in Poland) for a month, and afterwards are thinking to drive down the California coast in search of our new home.
Pleasant Hill has been my home for three years, and while it took awhile to adjust to my new suburban community, it has been the longest place I’ve called home in over a decade. It’s where I became writer in the sunlit corner desk in my bedroom, writing about food, travel and everything in between.
Living in Pleasant Hill, has allowed me to explore the East Bay more in depth. Escaping to nearby Berkeley, Oakland, and Alameda, when I needed a break from the stillness of suburban life.
But now it feels right to move on.
My hope is for us to have a home base, but also be location independent which will allow us to travel more and work from the road. As I’ve gotten older, I still crave the open road, but also long for a place to come back home and recharge.
These life changes has been in our minds for a while, and I feel grateful to finally have the chance to make it a reality. This is just the beginning, and there’s a lot of hard work ahead, but it feels right at this moment in our lives.
So here’s to dreaming big, and working hard.
